From Grebenau to the whole world

The foundation stone for a success story was laid 100 years ago with the founding of the Gebr. Schreck in Wetzlar. The company, which has around ten employees, is now based in Vogelsberg and exports from here all over the world.

IHK General Manager Matthias Leder insisted on handing over the certificate for the 100th anniversary of Gebr. Schreck Feinmechanik GmgH & Co. KG to the managing partner Rita Becker-Ochs in June. In addition to the employees and numerous other guests, IHK Vice President Rainer Dietz, District Administrator Manfred Görig and the Mayors Stephan Paule (Alsfeld) and Lars Wicke (Grebenau) came to the celebration. The Frankfurt group “Walk-a-Tones” also made a significant contribution to the success of the evening. In its early days, the company founded by the Gebr. Schreck was involved in the manufacture of individual parts for microscopes, microphotography and photo shutters with air pressure and clock value control. Cable releases were made for the latter. Interrupted only by forced management during the Second World War, the company still produces cable releases to this day, while the other products were quickly abandoned. The company was already exporting to 25 countries in the 1930s.

Cable releases are in demand

In 1963, the Frankfurt merchant and toolmaker Rolf Becker took over the company from Adolf and Karl Schreck and two years later relocated to Grebenau-Schwarz. From 1970, cable releases for industrial use were included in the production program. Through a consistent further development of production, an ever increasing vertical range of manufacture was achieved. Industrial releases for control cabinets were

added in the 1970s. Cable releases were also used by NASA in space travel, recalls Rita Becker-Ochs, who took over the company from her father in 1998 and is now in "part-time retirement". Other shareholders are her daughter Cornelia Voigt and Torsten Franz. Rita Becker-Ochs was always supported by her husband Gerhard Ochs. Gebr. Schreck Feinmechanik GmbH & Co. KG now manufactures all turned parts itself and also winds the required springs on its own machines. Four state-of-the-art CNC machines from STAR are

used in the turning shop, as well as precise, cam controlled machines from Tornos and Esco. There has been an online shop since 2006. Despite the corona pandemic and the Ukraine war, sales have remained constant, according to Rita Becker-Ochs. "Due to Corona, you are observing an ever increasing demand for our photo triggers, especially in the private sector." Inquiries for old parts are also coming from the USA.
